What is SleepCheck?

SleepCheck is a clinically accurate, hassle-free sleep apnoea (also spelled sleep apnea) screening test that checks your breathing and snore sounds during sleep.

Usually, sleep apnoea tests involve an overnight sleep study with a large number of sensors connected to your body.

With SleepCheck you can assess the risk of sleep apnoea in the comfort of your own bed. It will tell you if you need to talk to your doctor about a diagnostic sleep test.

SleepCheck is currently available in Europe (including the UK), Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong.

Why should I take the SleepCheck test?

Sleep apnoea is a serious medical condition that can have a major impact on your life. Sleep apnoea is when air stops flowing to your lungs for ten seconds or longer during sleep. In some cases, this can happen more than 30 times per hour all night. This causes daytime tiredness, reduced productivity and an impaired immune system, and has been linked to serious complications such as heart disease, hypertension, stroke and type 2 diabetes.

Sleep apnoea affects more than three in every ten men, and nearly two in ten women. Studies have shown that 80% of people with sleep apnoea are undiagnosed.

Do you have diabetes? There is a strong link between type 2 diabetes and sleep apnoea with 50-80% of people diagnosed with diabetes also experiencing sleep apnoea. Learn more

Frequently Asked Questions

Anyone aged 18 years and over can take the SleepCheck test. If you, or someone you know experiences common symptoms of sleep apnoea such as loud snoring, difficulty breathing or staying asleep (insomnia), they should take the SleepCheck test. Other symptoms could include waking up with a dry mouth, headache, tiredness or excessive daytime sleepiness (hypersomnia).

The analysis process starts immediately after you stop the recording. It can take between 20-60 seconds to provide a result, depending on your smartphone.

SleepCheck analyses your breathing and snore sounds during your sleep. The app’s built in algorithms then determine your apnoea hypopnoea index (AHI) number. The AHI is the number of pauses in your breathing that occur per hour that you sleep. SleepCheck uses this to provide an accurate assessment of your risk of sleep apnoea (low, medium, high or very high).

In a 308 patient clinical study, SleepCheck’s algorithms were shown to accurately identify obstructive sleep apnoea when compared to a simultaneous at-home comprehensive sleep study. The algorithms determine the apnoea hypopnoea index (AHI) during sleep. AHI is a measure of the number of pauses in breathing that a person experiences per hour of sleep. An AHI of 5/h is considered to be mild sleep apnoea, while an AHI greater than 30/h is considered severe.

Yes. Once you have purchased the SleepCheck app, you can take as many tests as you like.
